Project Highlight: DACUM International Training Center

DACUM (Developing a Curriculum) is an effective and relatively low-cost method of analyzing jobs and occupations used worldwide for more than 40 years and in over 58 countries. This unique process successfully supports job and occupational analysis for organizations, including community colleges, companies, government agencies and professional organizations. The DACUM International Training Center brings over 25 years of experience conducting DACUM institutes in person and virtually (with both synchronous and asynchronous online sessions).

DACUM Process

DACUM’s process involves a panel of expert workers and a skilled facilitator working together to precisely identify the duties and tasks performed in a job or occupation. The panel of experts collectively and cooperatively describes the job or occupational tasks in the language that those within their industry can understand and embrace. The duties and tasks (sometimes called competencies) become the foundation of competency-based training programs by identifying what must be taught to the worker or student.

DACUM Uses:

-Developing and updating competency-based curricula and training programs
-Preparing certifications/licensing for professions
-Creating performance assessments/testing
-Providing career advising and counseling
-Creating HR/organization development tools such as job descriptions, job-specific performance appraisals, and standard operating procedures
-Analyzing a process
-Defining functions that cut across multiple jobs
-Outlining emerging or conceptual jobs
