Fan Xu, PhD

Fan Xu, PhD, is a senior learning designer at the Center on Education and Training for Employment.  Her work at the center focuses on designing and developing multimedia deliverables for Advancing Ohio’s English Learners program and supporting center-wide learning design projects.

Dr. Xu holds a Ph.D. degree in Edu Learning Technologies from the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. She is a member of the Learning and Experience Design research group that investigates learning design processes and pedagogies to create deep learning in applied contexts. Before her doctoral studies, Fan earned an MSc. degree from The University of Hong Kong and a BSc. degree from Shanghai Normal University.

Dr. Xu has a strong background in designing synchronous and asynchronous learning and training experiences with interactive technologies and data-driven assessment. From 2017 to 2018, she worked as a learning designer in Hong Kong, creating educational solutions for diverse contexts and audiences, including higher education institutions, companies, and individual learners.  She has also participated in research projects initiated by the Southern University of Science and Technology University and UNESCO-ICHEI (International Centre for Higher Education Innovation), advancing educational technologies in developing countries in Asia and Africa.

During her doctoral studies, in the “Applied Instructional Design” graduate course, Dr. Xu and her teammates developed a multimedia-based educational solution that received a national award from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology, Division of Distance Learning.
