Ruth Nneoma Oliwe is a PhD Candidate in Teaching and Learning, STEM Education at The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on the mathematics identity and agency development of Black girls across global contexts, particularly the United States and Nigeria, using creative and multimodal approaches such as comics and digital storytelling. Drawing on her experiences in both Nigeria and the United States, Ruth designs storytelling-centered learning spaces that position students to connect their mathematical knowledge and skills to their lived experiences, families, and communities.
At CETE, Ruth supports the operations of the Center on Education and Training for Employment’s (CETE) Translational Research (TR) Workgroup and Steering Team under the guidance of Drs. Johnson, Julian, and Lee. She assists in developing and implementing operational procedures supporting the work of CETE’s Steering Team and TR Workgroup’s efforts to address key questions related to organizational values and the technical aspects of translational research. She brings exceptional research, organizational, administrative, and translational skills from her experience in various roles at OSU and beyond and is passionate about advancing CETE’s efforts to address key organizational and technical questions in translational research.
Before joining CETE, Ruth served as a Graduate Teaching Associate for Elementary Mathematics Methods and Elementary Science Methods courses in the Department of Teaching and Learning at The Ohio State University and as a Graduate Research Associate in the NSF-funded Digital Mathematics Storytelling project with principal investigator Dr. Theodore Chao. She earned an MA in Teaching and Learning, STEM Education at The Ohio State University and a BSc. in Mathematics from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria.
Ruth grew up in Lagos State, Nigeria, and enjoys reading comics, novels and C-/K-drama in her free time.
