CETE evaluates prenatal eclass

The Ohio Department of Administrative Services have awarded $396,000 to David Julian, PhD, and the CETE evaluation team for their Evaluation of Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program Prenatal Curriculum project. The team members designed a formal, state-of-the-art evaluation study to gain insight into the impact of an online training program called InJoy Understanding Birth eClass.

CETE receives funding for automated materials joining project

CETE Director Robert Mahlman received $212,500 of an anticipated $399,500 from the Ohio Department of Education for the Automated Materials Joining Technologies (AMJT) project: 2014–2015. The AMJT project is a series of courses for secondary career-technical students in Ohio on the advanced manufacturing process of automated materials joining.

CETE-supported Math Coaching Program is awarded $2.8 million

The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology Department of Teaching and Learning’s Patti Brosnan and Azita Manouchehri have received $2.8 million from the Ohio Department of Education to continue the Mathematics Coaching Program (MCP) for a 10th year. The MCP provides training to experienced teachers who work as full-time mathematics coaches. The coaches team up daily in six-week rotations with teachers in their classrooms to assist in implementing research-based strategies that help K–12 students learn mathematics.

CETE’s Austin and Mahlman will deliver workshop at IPAC preconference

James Austin, PhD, and Robert Mahlman will present Test Construction Principles & Practices preconference workshop at the International Personnel Assessment Council Conference on July 20–23, 2014, in Denver.

CETE’s Mahlman received IVETA Service Award

Bob Mahlman received the International Vocational Education and Training Association’s (IVETA’s) Joel Magisos Exceptional Service Award in recognition of his long-term individual support that has contributed to the continued development and growth of the organization.

CETE assists in revision of Career Field Technical Content Standards

CETE is assisting the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) in the revision of Ohio’s Career Field Technical Content Standards (CFTCS). CETE began working with ODE on the current standards revision process in 2012. CETE’s role in the revision of the Ohio CFTCS includes planning and coordinating the project, researching relevant labor market data, tracking state and national documents, and assembling panels of business leaders across each of the industry sectors.

Ohio’s 2013 Special Education Leadership Conference

Ohio’s 7th Annual Special Education Leadership Conference attracted over 1800 people involved in education throughout Ohio. Held on September 30 – October 2, 2013 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, the Pre-Conference on Legal Issues attracted over 700 people for a half day on September 30th and those people plus over 1100 additional people attended the two-day Conference on October 1-2, 2013.

UNESCO-UNEVOC Regional Forum Europe, CIS and North America brings more than 100 delegates together to tackle greening TVET, meeting the challenges of youth unemployment and harmonizing international policy and practice. Delegates to the fourth UNESCO-UNEVOC regional conference on advancing, improving and greening TVET that opened in Moscow Monday (28 October) may sometimes feel as if their efforts are just a "drop in the ocean", according to the Bonn, Germany-based international organization's head Shyamal Majumdar. But they must never forget the strength they have in numbers.

Certificates and Certifications: Credential Clarification Is Critical!

Stimulated by the current economy, adults are returning to training and education to enhance their labor market success. Government workforce economic development agencies as well as private and community organizations advocate certifications and certificates. Credential is the generic term for such designations. Together with educational degrees, state licenses, and registration systems, certificates and certifications signal competence in the individual (Schoon & Smith, 2000) and fit into a movement toward lifelong learning through “stackable credentials” for individuals.
