Outstanding Special Education Teacher Award

A special education teacher from one of our mNET partners was awarded the Outstanding Special Education Teacher Award. Brenda McNair from the Clark County School District in Nevada received this award from the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET).

IVETA International Conference

CETE’s director Bob Mahlman attended the International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) Conference in Fiji on August 23-25, 2016. He has served on their Executive Committee for six years and will be the group’s president starting in January 2017. Major issues addressed at the Executive Committee meeting were the updating of the constitution and bylaws, enhancement of member benefits, and future international conferences.

DACUM Process Used for Training in Industry

The DACUM process was used recently by Mars Inc. (the candy company) at their Cleveland, Tennessee, plant for employee training with very satisfactory results.

Panel Presentation on Family Engagement

Barbara Boone was a panel member for the Family Engagement: Making Federal Policy Real presentation at the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs Director’s Conference, August 1, 2016, in Washington, D.C.

Distance Teaching and Learning Conference

CETE staff Joyce Isler, Greg Nagy, Cara North, and Alicia Willis attended the annual Distance Teaching and Learning conference August 9-11, 2016, in Madison, Wisconsin. This conference brings together distance education and training professionals to share ideas, resources, research, and best practices. Vendors attend to exhibit and present emerging technologies and to show their impact on distance education. The conference keynotes were given by Richard Culatta, Michelle Miller, and Karl Kapp.

CETE Staff Present at the International Personnel Assessment Council

CETE staff attended and presented at the annual conference of IPAC (International Personnel Assessment Council) in Sacramento CA.

Technical Testing Project prepping for new year

The Technical Testing Project operated by CETE Assessment Services includes two key components: design of test items (i.e., questions) and delivery of tests for the Ohio Career-Technical Education (CTE) Technical Testing System. Test delivery also requires end-user support for the field, especially at peak times of the year, month, and day.

DOK Framework informs Ohio’s CFTCS

In June 2015, Sara Christopherson, director of WebbAlign from the Wisconsin Center for Education Products and Services (WCEPS), facilitated a Depth of Knowledge (DOK) workshop at the Center on Education and Training for Employment (CETE), which is housed in The Ohio State University’s College of Education and Human Ecology. The workshop supported CETE staff’s work to develop Family and Consumer Sciences standards (part of Ohio's Career Field Technical Content Standards [CFTCS]) guided by a consideration of DOK.

Gimbert receives 2015 Distinguished Research Award

The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE) recently honored CETE’s Belinda Gimbert, PhD, associate professor of Educational Studies, with the 2015 Distinguished Research Award.
