
CETE’s director Bob Mahlman attended the International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) Conference in Fiji on August 23-25, 2016. He has served on their Executive Committee for six years and will be the group’s president starting in January 2017. Major issues addressed at the Executive Committee meeting were the updating of the constitution and bylaws, enhancement of member benefits, and future international conferences. Six themes were covered at the international conference:
• Quality Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) – challenges and issues, TVET Innovation and Technology
• TVET and Teacher Education
• Greening TVET, TVET for sustainable development, and inclusive TVET
• Pathways from TVET to employment, entrepreneurship, and industry partnership
• TVET qualifications and accreditation
• Internationalization through TVET
IVETA is a membership organization that stresses the importance of workforce development and shares best practices worldwide. For CETE, international outreach opportunities for its workforce-development services are made possible by contacts through involvement with IVETA.
