DACUM Process Used for Training in Industry

The DACUM process was used recently by Mars Inc. (the candy company) at their Cleveland, Tennessee, plant for employee training with very satisfactory results. The company conducted a workshop for packaging operators to define their duties and tasks in detail. Mars noted that the advantage of the DACUM method was to focus on training for this particular position in a more time- and cost-efficient way. The result was a foundation to train newly hired operators efficiently and quickly using a competency-based approach. They recommended that this method be used for the onboarding and development of new hires. Several people from this Mars plant have been trained as DACUM facilitators.
